Our Story

The Latin America Funders Collective (LAFC) was created in 2024 by the Tinker Foundation, Tawingo Fund, and Focus Central America Foundation, with a goal of supporting donors interested in learning more about the giving landscape in Latin America. Drawing on more than a decade of combined grantmaking experience in the region, the Collective shares its learning, offers perspectives where needed, and taps its network to make relevant introductions along the way.

The concept of the Collective originated from the recognition that coming together as peer funders, regardless of the size of a grantmaking budget or giving vehicle used, strengthened each respective funder’s approach and impact. With a deep commitment to empowering leaders and communities in the region, The Latin America Funders Collective strives to break down silos in the philanthropic sector and act as a go-to resource on giving to Latin America.

LAFC serves as an informational resource to fellow funders and donors. Its support is provided on a fully pro bono basis and does not constitute legal advice, nor are LACF members certified philanthropic advisors.

Ways to Engage with LAFC

The Collective is a group of funders who have determined that they can advance their respective organizational missions by helping others navigate the giving landscape in Latin America. LACF quickly triages your inquiry to provide actionable information, facilitate introductions, and act as an informal sounding board.

Examples of How LAFC Can Help:

Effective Nonprofit Referrals

Information on effective nonprofit organizations, particularly those based in and led from the region, working with specific issue areas of interest to peer donors. Together, Tinker, Tawingo, and FCA have supported hundreds of organizations in the region and are happy to make connections and share what they are learning.

Connecting Donors

Introductions to other donors working on similar areas, such as education, climate resiliency, gender equality, and migration - or focused on similar funding strategies, such as locally led organizations or small grants.

Exploring Giving Options

Overview of options for directing resources to the region (e.g., intermediaries and borderless giving solutions). Suggestions for navigating the complex ecosystem of donor collaboratives, networks, conferences, etc. - for funders just starting their exploration and those with more sophisticated network building goals.
